Many people believe that when you are faced with challenges and obstacles in life, and you make the wrong decision, that your life from then on will be a failure. Don’t tell that to Angela Brantley. She has overcame many obstacles. In fact when you mention them to her, she often quotes a quote by Roger Crawford, “Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.”

At seventeen Angela became pregnant. Determined not to become a statistic, she continued attending school until she gave birth to her daughter. After the birth of her daughter, she was faced with the challenges many students are still facing today; High School Graduation Test. After many tries Angela was unable to successful graduate from high school. Angry and embarrassed, Angela began to battle with herself and her ability to be better.

Ambitious and driven to be a role model to Youth in her community, she signed up to take the GED test. After two tries Angela received her GED. She believed that with her GED many doors would open for her. Immediately, she began taking Early Childhood Education classes at Savannah Tech College. In spring of 2000, Angela graduated with an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. For many years Angela would continue to attend Savannah Tech College. She went on and received her Master’s Cosmetology diploma as well as her license.

In 2003 Angela began working with children between the ages of 6 weeks to 3 years old. She worked at Economic opportunity Authority (EOA) for a few years. It was here were Angela gain the knowledge and the experience that she would take with her on her next journey in life. With the help from her husband Angela decided to step out on faith and open up her own Childcare Center. In 2006, #1 Priority Learning Academy opened its doors.

Over the next few years, Angela fulfilled many roles. As a business owner, basketball coach,  youth advisory at First Union Baptist Church, mentor, and a youth advocate For YAP; she always had time for her family. In 2013 she added Case Manager to that list when she received a job with the Department for Family and Children’s Services (DFACS). Over the course of that year, Angela witnessed the struggles of families and their children in our community. This experiences made her eager to open up a group home for Youth.

As we fast-forward to today, Angela has attained a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s in Education. She is now a loving mother of four beautiful children, three boys and one girl. Angela believes her greatest attribute is her ability to work with diverse groups of people. It is her goal to make a difference in her community anyway she can.
